Programs
All programs are by audition only.
Professional Program - The ESBS Professional Dance Program is an integrated academic and professional dance training program for students in academic grades 7 to 12. Students attend academic classes at Vimy Ridge Academy each morning, and professional dance classes in the afternoon. Dance tuition fees are paid by the Edmonton Public School Board. However, families are required to pay student fees that cover extra costs such as pianists, costuming, choreography, and performances. Student Fees are to be made payable to the Edmonton School of Ballet Society. Every year, students who register prior to May 31st will be eligible for an early-bird discount.
Classical Program - Once students achieve the Intermediate Cecchetti examination and are accepted into Level 8, they must choose between the Classical and Contemporary Program. The classical program includes Repertoire an extra Ballet Classes.
Contemporary Program - Once students achieve the Intermediate Cecchetti examination and are accepted into Level 8, they must choose between the Classical and Contemporary Program. The contemporary program includes extra Modern and Jazz Classes.
Elective Program - The Elective Dance Program has been created to allow a wider range of students to experience the dance curriculum. The program focuses on introducing the students to many different dance genres, including ballet, jazz, and modern. This program may assist students who have the interest but not the experience to prepare for the professional program if they so desire. Classes are geared towards fun and challenging movement experiences that include flexibility, strength, basic dance technique, musicality and performance. This program is for those students with little to no experience in dance who would like to study dance as a school option, just like drama, music, or food studies, for example. Students take 3 dances classes, 1 physical education class, and 1 dance theory class per week.
Accelerated Transfer Program - This program is designed for two groups of students, those who are not yet at the appropriate level for the full professional program but show the potential and the desire to be accepted into this program, and for those students who are interested in dance, have some experience, but are not interested in dancing as intensively as the professional program demands.
